Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Operation with TCG 2032 V16 Gas Engine

In August 2021, Valdex Energetica LLC, one of Russia’s leading companies in the field of engineering, design, and maintenance of power generation plants, successfully commissioned the first stage of the new power plant for the Sukhonsky Cardboard and Paper Mill LLC.

The concurrent production of the auxiliary equipment and the use of a prefabricated building made it possible to go live with the MWM TCG 2032 V16 genset within only 11 months after signing the contract. Since the go-live, the genset has reliably provided 4.3 MW of electrical energy. In addition to being a highly efficient and economical solution, the TCG 2032 V16 genset also supplies 1.9 MW of thermal energy, with heat recovery performed exclusively via the engine jacket.

This initial commissioning only marked the first phase of a multi-stage project. In the course of 2022, two additional MWM TCG 2032 V16 gas engines were installed and successfully integrated into the plant. Together with the first genset, the three TCG 2032 V16 gas engines now provide a total electrical output of 12.9 MW. Additionally, a steam generator was implemented into the genset exhaust system. It produces 3.1 tons of saturated steam per hour at a pressure of 12 bar, enabling additional heat supply without further fuel consumption thanks to the combined heat and power (CHP) concept. The site now also delivers 5.7 MW of hot water and approximately 9.3 tons of saturated steam per hour.
